Atlanta is one of the best cities in the country. It’s home to CNN, Coca-Cola,UPS and numerous other large corporations and is progressing rapidly. On the other hand you have cities such as New Orleans that has been consistently ranked as one of the poorest, most crime-ridden cities in the U.S. even prior to Katrina.

hmm it home of CNN, Coca-cola, UPS and other large corprations might have a hand in it.
a lot of other large mostly Black cities lost a lot of jobs in the 60′s do to white flight (when whites lift for the suburbs taking business with them) and they haven’t been able to get a solid foot hold ever since.
With no jobs it didn’t take long for those areas to go bad. once the areas went bad people didn’t want to come back with jobs…and it just keeps getting worst and worst.
I have lived in Atlanta for the past 15 years and in Georgia for 35, if you think it is a great city now you should have seen it in it’s hayday before blacks took over every aspect of the cities government. Now it is on the fast track to becoming just as crime ridden and corrupt as neighboring Clayton and DeKalb Counties.
The people of New Orleans were all welfare dependent and never worked a day in their life before the storm, so what makes you think they would work to do anything positive after the storm.
Atlanta isn’t a “black” city…it’s a melting pot of many races. There are a lot of black people in Atlanta and you do see many homeless ones in certain areas of town. But some are white or other races, too.
There are several historically “black” colleges in Atlanta…like Morehouse College for black men and Spelman University for black women, along with several others in the Atlanta college community, all right there in downtown. I worked a temp assignment at Morehouse College for only 2 days but I loved it and I’m a white girl. The people were so nice and well-educated. The students were so polite and courteous. I read their college campus newspaper while there. I probably stood out like a sore thumb working there, but I didn’t care. The place was great. So, my point is…more black people are getting better educated. They have more opportunities now in Atlanta. I don’t know about New Orleans’ colleges or if they have any specifically for black people like Atlanta does. But I’ve told you a little about Atlanta and this is my belief of why Atlanta is such a successful “black” city, as you put it.
Why does color have anything to do with it? If you are talking about the success of blacks, there are very rich and successful blacks in most big cities. Consider New York, Chicago and Hollywood, ie., Los Angeles. Urban environments are usually where blacks get the most opportunities. There are urban environments like NOLA, Baltimore, Detroit where the best opportunities are in the field of crime. You see, there are a great many black men & women who were raised in single parent homes, in fact these days, most of them. Successful black men are making black babies and abandoning them so they can marry white women and produce beige children who are raised with more opportunities.
its the attitude of thepeople who live there, especially the cops. New Orleans is known worldwide as a city where the cops are corrupt, while Atlanta has long been known as a city where people pull together. There was a serial killer in Atlanta in the 70′s killing young black kids and the nearly all white police force worked round the clock to catch him. whereas if it happened in other cities, nothing would have been done until he killed a white kid
