If you have to ask, of course it’s a scam. Quite common in fact. It’s a Nigerian Advance Fee Scam.

    1. Entire item is poorly written.
    2. They try to come up with a reason as to why they want you to cash a large check they will send you. They claim they have a sponsor lined up (the name on the stolen check) who will pay all expenses but for some mysterious reason can only issue one check to you, so you need to keep $600 and send back the rest.

    3. They will stress that they are honest and they trust you to cash the check and immediately wire back all but $600. They will ask you to send it via Western Union, MoneyGram or bank wire. They will want you to do this in the brief window between the bank crediting your account (because you are a good customer) and the bank debiting your account (because the check is fake). The bank, of course, is going to expect you to pay them back 100% of the money they loaned you.

    4. If you fall for it, they will send you more fake checks saying they are for airline tickets, the trip will suddenly be “cancelled” and again they will want you to send them YOUR money.

It sounds like they are going to send you some money, have you keep your $600, and then send the rest onto the “Studio Manager”. The problem is that the check they send you will be fake, but the money you send to “Studio Manager” will be quite real. When your bank discovers the check is fake you will be out the $600 and any money you sent to the “Studio Manager”.

A huge red flag here is that the email is barely recognizable as English and that no reputable business would trust a stranger to send excess funds to their “Studio Manager” or anybody else.
